Everbrite bannerFaith, Film & Mercy – Launching the Insight Film Festival Student Filmmaker Award 2016

A Special Invitation

On behalf of the Insight Film Festival, it is my pleasure to invite you to the launch of the Student Filmmaker Award 2016 on 9 March 2016 at 10:00 am at the Mount Street Jesuit Centre at 114 Mount Street, Mayfair, London W1K 3AH (map)

From the refugee crisis to a seemingly endless war in Syria to communities coming to terms with hyper-diversity, over the past year, our collective capacity for compassion has been challenged. How do filmmakers address this challenge? Do major declarations like the Pope’s call that this be a ‘Year of Mercy’ ring true for artists and filmmakers who thrive on conflict and controversy?

SFA2016_Profile_1000x1000Join us for a special panel of critics, filmmakers and young auteurs to explore the ways in which cinema has and continues to explore the theme of mercy. We are look forward to a robust discussion and looking forward to hear your views!

RSVP your attendance at our Eventbrite page for the event.

Tea, coffee, juice and fresh pastries will be on offer!

With the theme The Merciful Planet?, this year the Insight Film Festival’s Student Filmmaker Award is daring the UK’s best student filmmakers to turn their creativity and passion to exploring what Mercy really means to us today. Whether or not we believe in God, for billions around the world, faith is an important part of their lives. For many, faith and mercy go hand in hand.

Alongside the great panel, we’ll also be hearing about last year’s successful awards programme – which saw nearly 50 filmmakers compete for a six-week internship with a studio in Hollywood and an opportunity to work on commercial and independent projects. We’ll also have a chance to hear about the 2015 winner’s new film and hear about her experiences in the USA.

Now in its third year, the Insight Student Filmmaker Award challenges the UK’s best student filmmakers to turn their creativity and their passion to exploring what faith and belief means to us today. We thank the Jesuits of the UK for generously supporting the award.

We look forward to welcoming you on 9 March!
