FAQs

‘I'm not religious, why should I enter?'
Because you are seriously interested in making films or moving image presentations. You want your work to be recognised on a wider platform. You want your work to offer a valuable contribution to the society you belong to. Oh … and you might win a thousand pounds!

‘I am religious, should my film be about the faith I belong to?'
It might be, if it can help those outside your faith with insights they can understand. But equally you could make a film about the faith of someone else.

‘What will happen to my entry?'
All entries will be assessed by a preliminary judging panel and a certain number will be short-listed for presentation to our high profile judging panel. The winning film and any runners up will be announced at our Festival Event in Manchester on Wednesday 21st November 2007.

‘Why has religious faith been chosen for the subject matter?'
Because it is one of the driving forces behind so many of our society's dynamics today.

Whether you agree with it or not; understand it or not; or whether you think it is a good or bad thing, there has never been a greater need for real insight and communication on the subject of faith.

The subject was chosen to encourage those interested in film making to make a contribution.

‘I've made a film connected with my religion which was sponsored - or paid for by a third party. Is it eligible?'
Yes, it is eligible if it fulfils the entry specification. If a third party has paid for the production or covered production costs, this must be mentioned on your accompanying application form.

‘What will the judges be looking for?'
They will bring their professional standards to asses the effectiveness of your movie. For the festival they will be watching for productions which give insight on what is making some people passionate about their faith in this modern world.

‘Does my film have to promote faith? Or be in favour of faith?'
Not necessarily. The festival does not specify conclusions, just that your film contribute to understanding faith in some way. It may present it as favourable or non favourable.
