Awards and Prizes
The 3rd Insight Festival 2011 granted various awards and prizes to selected films in the shortlist. Films were judged by several panels and were presented with awards at an Awards Ceremony on Sunday 4th December. The ceremony was presented by BBC newsreader and journalist Ranvir Singh, and saw filmmakers from across the globe accoladed for their work.

The Coexist Award - £1000 Cash
WINNER: Schilmazeltov! directed by Chris Allen
The Coexist Foundation is an interfaith organisation working to promote, encourage and support engagement between Muslims, Jews and Christians. They embrace the shared history and common ground of the three faith groups and work to educate the wider world about the faiths and their commonalities. We are delighted that they are our associate partners.

The Insight Festival Award - Make Films In Paris
WINNER: Looking After Edward directed by Alex Horsfall
In-keeping with the Insight Festival’s original brief, this award has been granted to a filmmaker aged under 25, and we hope Alex uses the workshop to enhance her professional career experience and prospects. Click here for more about EICAR

The SIGNIS Award - Sit on the Jury at Religion Today Festival in Italy
WINNER: Project Jerusalem directed by Jenna Hill
SIGNIS is the World Catholic Association for Communication and works to bring together professionals from the world of creative media across over 140 countries. The SIGNIS mission is to influence culture by ‘promoting human dignity, justice and reconciliation.’
The award is offered for a film which ‘best explores human values’.
As well as a trophy, SIGNIS have granted Jenna a ‘money-can’t-buy’ opportunity, she will be invited to become a member of the SIGNIS jury at the Religion Today festival in Italy. Click here for more information about SIGNIS and Religion Today.
The Framing British Muslims Awards
Best Overall Submission – My Lad - directed by Sami Khan
Best Short: Hope & Justice – directed by Ala Elhoudiri
Young Voices Award: Joe Nobody – An Nisa Society production

The Rationalist Association Award
WINNER: The Backwater Gospel directed by Bo Mathorne
The Rationalist Association Award was granted to the film which best displayed ‘rational thought’. Editor of the New Humanist Magazine Caspar Melville presented the award in person. For more from Caspar and why rational thought is so important in the debate about faith, read our interview with him.
