Competition details

Young people in the UK are invited to make a short film to make a big impact and win international awards.

Manchester: March 2014

The PLURAL+ Insight Award

The Insight Film Festival is working with PLURAL+, the United Nations Association of Civilisations [UNAOC] youth film festival, in an exciting venture to encourage young people in the UK to make videos with their views on ‘migration’, ‘diversity’, ‘faith’ and ‘social inclusion’.

One film – that embraces the theme of ‘faith’ – will be awarded a special PLURAL+ Insight Award trophy; other films submitted through our competition  will be included on a DVD to be distributed with the UNAOC throughout the world.

Some films entered for the PLURAL+ Insight Award will be eligible to win further prizes: the makers could be invited to a ceremony in New York City in December 2014.

The competition offers a filmmaking opportunity in the UK for groups of young people in schools and clubs aged 9–25.

The brief for eligible video entries

The competition recognises young people as powerful agents for social change in a world often characterised by intolerance, and cultural and religious divisions. The Insight Film Festival, which began in Manchester in 2007, encourages filmmakers of all backgrounds to consider ‘faith’ as an important theme in filmmaking. In doing so, it wants to contribute to community cohesion. It is partnering with PLURAL+ by sponsoring an award and by inviting schools and groups of young people in the UK to address issues related to faith, migrant integration, inclusiveness, identity, diversity, human rights and social cohesiveness, at local or global levels.

Young people in the UK aged between 9–25 years are invited to submit short videos of five minutes maximum in length. There are three age categories (9–12 years, 13–17 years and 18–25 years).

Entry is free and films will be judged in the first instance by a panel of Insight Film Festival organisers, who include professional filmmakers, academics and media people.
