Insight is pleased to announce a partnership with the PLURAL+ Youth Video Festival
Background to PLURAL+
PLURAL+ is an initiative of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), which encourages youth from around the world to submit original and creative videos that focus on themes of migration, diversity and social inclusion.
Young people as agents of change
Recognising youth as powerful agents of social change in a world often characterised by intolerance, and cultural and religious divisions, PLURAL+ invites youth around the world to address key challenges related to migrant integration, inclusiveness, identity, diversity, human rights and social cohesiveness, whether at local levels or with a global perspective.
Young people between the ages of 9 to 25 are invited to submit short videos to PLURAL+ that have a maximum length of five minutes. The 2013 competition received 254 entries from 71 countries by the submission deadline of 30 June 2013; the winning filmmakers (selected by an international jury) will be notified by 12 October 2013 in preparation for public announcement of the winners at an awards ceremony to be held in New York on 5 December 2013. The winners of the PLURAL+ International Jury Award in each of three age-group categories will be invited to the ceremony to present their work.
Partnership between PLURAL+ and the Insight Film Festival
The Insight Film Festival began a partnership with PLURAL+ during the summer of 2013 that will offer a partner award to ‘a film that best features, touches upon or explores a notion of faith’. Our judging panel comprises media professionals that include: Dr Johannes Sojberg, Lecturer in Screen Studies at the University of Manchester; writer and creative director, Abdul-Rehman Malik; and John Forrest, Festival Director at the Insight Film Festival. In addition, the Insight judging panel may also select up to two additional films for commendations.
The winner of the Insight Film Festival Partner Award and any commendations will be announced at the PLURAL+ awards ceremony in New York on 5 December 2013. The winning film will receive the Award title, a certificate and a trophy or medal.
